TikTok is facing another potential lawsuit after the Federal Trade Commission alleged that the company violated a law that protects the online privacy rights of children.
“Although the Commission does not typically make public the fact that it has referred a complaint, we have determined that doing so here is in the public interest,” the FTC’s statement says. Various studies have found TikTok’s algorithm can feed content about self-harm and other dangerous topics to kids through its “For You” section, which tailors what types of videos are shown to a user based on their interests or past interactions.
