A heat advisory is in effect for WNY from noon today until 8pm Thursday. The heat index will range from 95 to 100 degrees.Legislation allowing the direct shipment of liquor and beer to customers was passed by the New York State Assembly.

Assemblymember Al Stirpe announced the passage of the legislation, which he co-sponsored, Monday. The bill would allow the direct shipment of cider, liquor, mead and braggot to customers, a business model that New York wineries have used for several years. “From beer to wine to cider, New York has some of the world’s most talented and innovative makers of alcoholic beverages,” Stirpe said. “Their entrepreneurial drive and passion for their craft have revitalized our state’s agriculture sector and drawn new visitors to countless communities through agrotourism. It is only right that we help them bring their fine products to new markets.

“This bill would benefit New York consumers and producers alike and open new tax revenue streams to support public services," Stirpe said.
