South-South govs seek dignified exit for Onnoghen

The South-south governors may have resolved to intervene in the resignation saga of the embattled Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen.

Onnoghen turned in his letter 24 hours after the NJC met and decided that he had to go having lost the moral authority to continue as CJN with the litany of allegations bordering on misconduct against him.gathered that the majority of the South-South governors have bought the idea of intervening in the Onnoghen matter.

On Thursday however, the tribunal convicted him for failing to declare his assets as required by law, and ordered his immediate removal from office as CJN. Sources said the governors are keen on getting a dignified exit for Onnoghen, who is from the geopolitical zone.A source familiar with the development said: “The South-South governors want the presidency to close the chapter on Onnoghen by accepting his voluntary resignation/ retirement. This is why they believe a political solution is better than this messy affair.

“They do not want the CCT matter to drag on for more months. They also do not want Onnoghen subjected to a separate trial by the EFCC on other allegations against him.”Before the conviction of the CJN on Thursday, he had resigned or retired after much pressure and following the decision of the NJC advising Buhari to retire him.

Dignified?

What is his crime sef? Buhari forged WAEC certificate. CCT chair is wanted by EFCC

Dignify exit for a thief ? Ds shows d type of people who are Governor in those states. u shu all bury ur head in shame.

Weren't they the same group of people who advised him not to attend the CCT hearings? ...and now they want to negotiate, having been the same people who put in this poor negotiating position

PDP Governors not South South because I know GovernorObaseki is not among. The same people that pushed him into the abyss.

Shameful resolution

Hmmm. The same governors pushed him to this stage now they want dignified exit.

You can go on and do whatever you want after all, 'criminals' in Nigeria are celebrities.

After the senseless hue and crying of persecution of a Southern Justice, as if being a Southerner is a license to commit fraud. E GBE gbogbo enu yin soun!!

My candid advise is he shld be send to jail to serve as deterrent to other judges..

This is not matter of region or people but a matter that needed to be treated with all neutrality.

They just wake up?

South South Governors should stop this act of 'we agree he is a THIEF but he is OUR THIEF'

Please also seek dignified exit for Evans. Oloshi gbogbo.

When we keep showing pity n soft landing to those who destroyed our Nation,we then cannot fight corruption .we will keep encouraging ppl to steal big n silly n get our pity

Its this not late? You all kept your cool allow your PDP party to heat up the system on it.will Buhari reverse the court judgement?

Capital NO

What happen to the initial threat that he was being victimized? If this had been well handed without that communiqué maybe 'the dignified exit' would be possible. Everybody is proving himself now and no one will surrender again. Bad Governors except Obaseki of Edo state.

Had it been he is commin citizen will they do that! No way law is nit respecter of anybody! U ppl misled him not to resign in the first place, let him contend with that embarrassment!

People are so shameless in this nation

I thought the lady of justice is blind with twoedged sword? The Nigerian version is class senstive with one eye opened and a cutlass, sharp side for the poor and disadvantage while the blunt side is for the rich......Continueeee.

I really don't understand this people

This is Nigeria

Do they have it?

I tot dey told him not to honor d invitation...

Foolish governors

The same ppl that held a shameful meeting on d night of 11th Jan &told Onoghen not2 appeared b4 d CCT even after Onoghen has agreed in his house2appear with agreement of a in house trial approaches. They pushed him&worsened d situation4 him. So where is d outcome of their threats

ProfOsinbajo Titles don’t speak about a man’s ability in Nig. In a govt that had a prof of law as No. 2 citizen in its 4th year charges &convicts a man with unverified forms(blank&unsigned), a form dated 2016 with 4yr duration period. Sad! Every case is judged on it merits.

A thief will always enjoy d company of a thief nah!

But he didn't think of himself dignified. Else he would have been cautious in his dealings, irrespective of whom/what he was dealing with. He didn't need to prove he was being watched and his actions could backfire. Having attained such height. Life's lesson for all.
