A judge could soon decide on a trial date for a man charged in the deaths of four University of Idaho students who were killed more than a year and a half ago.B

FILE - Bryan Kohberger, right, is escorted into a courtroom for a hearing in Latah County District Court, Sept. 13, 2023, in Moscow, Idaho. A judge says defense attorneys for Kohberger, the man charged in the deaths of four University of Idaho students in late 2022, can resume phone surveys of potential jurors in the case.

A judge entered a not guilty plea on Kohberger's behalf in a May 2023 hearing, and for the past several months Kohberger's defense attorneys and Latah County prosecutors have been wrangling over the evidence and other data gathered throughout the investigation. A sweeping gag order has prevented Kohberger, attorneys on both sides, law enforcement officials and others involved in the case from commenting.
