The uMkhonto weSizwe Party has filed an urgent application with the Electoral Court, seeking to have the election results declared invalid.

In court papers, MK Party leader Jacob Zuma alleges significant irregularities during the elections, which, according to them, resulted in a process that was not free and fair. “There were serious election irregularities of the nature that it cannot be said that such results reflected a free and fair election and the will of the voters,” the party argues.

They are requesting the court to review and set aside the decision of the Electoral Commission of South Africa, which declared the May 29 National and Provincial Elections results free and fair. The MK Party is also requesting for President Cyril Ramaphosa to call for a re-run of the elections, under Section 49 of the Constitution, which mandates a new national election within 90 days if the current results are overturned. The MK party has announced that Zuma will discuss the current political situation and recent developments in South Africa, covering crucial topics for the national discourse and the country’s future.
