"The pressure of trying to get to your flight or possibly having to buy another ticket and the emotional pressure of your family waiting to come and pick you up can have an impact," Dr Marmo said.
"Also, the inability to communicate if they remove, say, a phone from you, and the personal stress where you don't have much choice, can leave people feeling uneasy. "There is trust when it comes to police and Border Force, but once we go through treatment that we could be like a criminal, it can be hard to reinstate that trust."shared their experiences and offered advice for travelling across borders:
"I've had a knee replacement, so they pull me aside every time and I get a female officer to check. Despite the fact my knee always sets off the alarm, even if I have a letter from the doctor, they have to do the search.""I've been searched several times with the explosive test and tested positive. Generally, it's been when I've been working with explosives on quarry sites.
How do they search private planes, gamblers given 24 hr visas and diplomats?
None at all They can do as they please
How does the Australian government justify allowing the ABF to seize laptops, phones, and USB sticks, and then force innocent people to unlock them for no reason? It has nothing to do with border security.
Glad to see everybody watched the news in December about their rughts when arriving back in the country. You have the right to do as you're told. That's call guilty until proven innocent. You cannot prevent a search or else you can go to jail. The article is pretty clear.
I know the are doing there jobs. But I do hate coming back to Australia.
Be polite and it will be over soon.
So no rights then?
This was a very confused story. The story was about searching computers and phones, passengers paying for it and missing flights as a result. Then the abc collects comments from people who had 5 seconds of minor inconvenience due to metal knees and carrying a thermos.
Who wrote this utterly confused article? It mixes inwards arrivals (Border Force) with outwards departures (security), and includes passenger comments from domestic flights which have nothing to do with Border Force
most people are aware of why the immig process has tightened up. I have been asked to stand aside - it takes 1 min if you comply.
None of the quotes under the article have any relevance to Border Force. They are all about security screening and such.
It all sounds ok to me BUT, the vast expanses of Australian coastline that are not monitored are of concern. Perhaps a volunteer ABF coast watchers system is needed.
Your rights? Not to bring illegal shit into Australia .....that would be ‘your rights’ theirabc 😡
For a start putting the aziroazide azide in the bin would help.....
Frankly, given recent air events, I am delighted there is a zero tolerance to risk! And hence almost no rights to avoid the inspection processes of the airport staff!
Do your next story on the best way to smuggle contraband ABC. Seriously we are using tax payers money to give advice on how to try and break our laws. I guess you have done a million on how to pretend to be a refugee so it is consistent
Well if you are bringing illegal Items you are wrong no rights
You're in an airport you do as your told!
Without random searches how easy would it be to bring in contraband such as gun or drugs
Short version. None.
Zero
nearly all of those stories are interactions with airport security, not ABF.
Welcome to 1984.
The funniest moment I saw in Melbourne where someone from the AFP forgot he left his handcuffs in his hand luggage :) Think I was boarded before they worked out who to call on that one
get molested or go to jail pretty much
