Najib backs petition to livestream trial to counter 'inaccurate reporting'

Former prime minister Najib Razak leaves at the end of another day in the Kuala Lumpur High Court, where he is on trial for money laundering and power abuse. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, April 20, 2019.

A PETITION for Najib Razak’s trial to be broadcast live has gained more than 61,000 signatures, and has the backing of the man himself, who insists he is not given fair shrift by “government-controlled media”. The former prime minister, who has posted a link to the petition on his Facebook page, wants the state to livestream his ongoing corruption trial on social media platforms because he said the hearings are not being accurately reported.
