Police say the shooter shot himself in the right hand as he killed a 27-year-old Harrisburg native. Jerome Coleman, Jr., entered court sporting a similar injury Wednesday morning.

A man was shot and killed the afternoon of Friday, May 3, 2024, inside Antonio Grocery on the 2200 block of North Sixth Street in Harrisburg. But Jerome Coleman, Jr., walked from his cell into the central courtroom attached to the Dauphin County Prison wearing a cast around his lower right arm, while his left wrist was handcuffed to his waist.

Coleman’s right hand was in a cast due to a gunshot wound, according to medical records from a hospital police found him at earlier this month. Fustine said a confidential informant passed Coleman’s name to Commissioner Thomas Carter, who then passed the tip to Fustine. Fustine contacted Coleman’s parole officer, who obtained an absconder warrant — a warrant that allows parole officers to arrest a defendant for violating the terms of their release.

Police sent blood samples from the shooting scene to state police’s forensic lab to begin comparisons. In the meantime, he did a preliminary test at the Cumberland County Forensic Center, which determined that blood spilt at the doorway of Antonio’s Grocery matched blood found on Coleman’s sock.
