The first official portrait of King Charles III has been vandalised by animal rights activists just one month after being unveiled.

King Charles' first official portrait has been vandalised by animal rights activists over the monarch's support for the RSPCA, which the protesters claim is not properly vetting the animal welfare standards on the farms it endorses.

Two protesters from activist group Animal Rising climbed over security rope in front of visitors, covering Charles' face with an image of animated character Wallace from Wallace and Gromit. Picture: Animal Rising Animal Rising is calling on Charles to stop supporting the RSPCA - of which he is a patron - over the charity's running of an accreditation scheme that inspects the welfare of animals.

"With King Charles being such a big fan of Wallace and Gromit, we couldn't think of a better way to draw his attention to the horrific scenes on RSPCA Assured farms," one of the protesters, Daniel Juniper said in an Animal Rising statement.
