A "political activist" accused of attacking a garda during a protest in Dublin has claimed that he has been denied phone calls in prison and could not contact his solicitor since being denied bail more than a week ago.

He maintained that he tried to run but was pepper-sprayed and assaulted and that he wanted to make a complaint to the Garda Ombudsman .
