Serial offender Dean Haddow, 31, was sentenced at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.

They saw him walking with a machete in his hand and phoned the police.Defence lawyer Gregor Jarrott said Haddow's criminal record is"extensive" and he struggles with drug addiction.

The solicitor added: "While in custody he has been engaging with the appropriate services and things have settled down.Passing sentence, Sheriff Colin Dunipace told Haddow: "You have a troubling record for crimes of violence and use of weapons.The sentence was reduced from two years to 18 months because of his guilty plea and backdated to January 24.
