A crane works between the bell towers of Paris's Notre Dame cathedral on April 18, 2019, days after a massive fire devastated large sections of the edifice. By Emily Tamkin Emily Tamkin Reporter covering foreign affairs Email Bio Follow April 18 at 1:55 PM French President Emmanuel Macron wants Paris’s Notre Dame cathedral, devastated in a fire on Monday, repaired in five years.
“The 1905 law does not prevent state authorities or public authorities from maintaining — it’s actually quite the opposite,” Lopinot said. “The 1905 law preserves the principle that those buildings are not private buildings but that they are state-owned buildings. That comes directly from the revolution.”
“Apart from that, it’s a huge building that requires incredible expertise to maintain because it is so old [and] because the competencies you would need for a person to work on these kinds of buildings are very rare,” Lopinot said.
You know who.
The state. All churches built before 1905 belong to the french state
Shouldn't the Vatican have the main say in all this?
Notre Dame was built for the people of France-The State is responsible.

700 Million pledged within 6 Hours, by a hand full of corporations. When the 1% gets emotional over a historical 'structure', copious amounts of $$$ appear out of nowhere. But death, poverty, migration streams & millions of displaced people doesn't conern them? SocialistAnyDay

They all hurry to donate to the phallic symbol of the kiddy-fiddler's organisation. An organisation which is one of the richest in the world. Weird people. No brains. No moral. Republicans, I suspect.
This is a non-issue. 1%'ers all over the world are pouring in billions for the resto. The same ones who are working on it now will rebuild, w/the funds put into a public trust.
Separation of Church and State (in the US constitution at least), just means that the government can’t force one religion upon people, it doesn’t mean that the government doesn’t support religious freedom
Dan Rupli DRupli It is very touching to me that donations are coming in from all over the world to rebuild the Cathedral in Paris. How ironic it is that the world is in a climate emergency that threatens our very survival & that doesn't bring us together in similar fashion
State for bishop seats f.e. Notre Dame. Counties for 'normal ' churches. Law from 1905.
(Vatican City)
The new plans for the rebuilt cathedral are amazing.
The French government owns the building. It's theirs. The RCC has the right to use it in perpetuity, but they are only tenants.
The country owns the building and leases it to the church.
