Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has sued the Federal Government at the Federal High Court, Lagos, over failure

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project has sued the Federal Government at the Federal High Court, Lagos, over failure to publish details of the loans obtained by the governments of former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Yar’Adua, Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari.

SERAP argues that no one should be able to pull curtains of secrecy over decisions on the spending of public funds, which can be revealed without injury to the public interest, as democracy requires accountability, and accountability requires transparency. “Publishing the loan agreements signed by the governments of Obasanjo, Yar’Adua, Goodluck Jonathan and Buhari would allow Nigerians to scrutinise it and to demand accountability for the spending of the loans,” SERAP said.

Lagos State government has concluded plans for a road and bridge project that would link Sangotedo in Eti Osa Local Council with Ito-Omu Creek in Ibeju Lekki and Epe Local Council of the state. The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra , Nnamdi Kanu, has approached the Appeal Court urging it to restore the bail granted to him by an Abuja Federal High Court.Less than three months into bank recapitalisation, the extensive fund-raising programmes may be shocking the economy as credit to the private sector continues to go south in the last few months, market data have revealed.
