They are softly spoken, polite, even a little retiring. And they are in the mood to be provocative.Hyperdrama
Xavier de Rosnay and Gaspart Augé of dance music duo Justice walk the streets of Paris. The duo have released their first album in eight years.Though seemingly counterintuitive to smash-hit success, it’s a kind of perverted alchemy that has long served Justice well. Augé, 44, and de Rosnay, 41, met as university students, collaborating for the first time on a remix ofby British electro rock band Simian for a campus radio contest.
“Even for us, we were thinking, ‘How is it possible that eight years have passed?’,” says de Rosnay . They live within five minutes of each other in Paris’ 19th arrondissement and worked on the album in de Rosnay’s living room studio which they refer to as “The Haven of Friendship”. “It’s purely emotional and physical. There’s no story, it’s not a concept album in any way,” says de Rosnay. “It’s dramatic in the way it’s constructed, with ups and downs and an arc you can follow, that takes you from very euphoric moments to more melancholic ones, some more demanding, some easier.”
