Opting out as a FirstEnergy customer is easy. Pick another provider for your home or business, and the new company will take it from there, writes lawyer Michael J. Reidy of Middleburg Heights in a letter to the editor.

FirstEnergy Corp. has admitted in court documents to its role in a bribery scheme to underhandedly increase customers’ energy expense in order to bail itself out on its failing plants.

Opting out is easy. Pick another provider for your home or business, and the new company will take it from there. I recently opted out and the kilowatt/hour expense for my business decreased from 10.4 cents to 8.5. Doesn’t sound like much, but over the course of a year, it’s huge. Michael J. Reidy is a lawyer.
