Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) officers arrested him at Terminal 1 on Friday

An Indian seaman charged with people smuggling had two other "undocumented" passengers' passports from the same flight in his luggage after landing at Dublin Airport, a court has heard.

The offence, on conviction, can carry a maximum 10-year jail sentence. Judge Grainne Malone noted he did not need an interpreter at this stage, but she ordered that he have one at his later hearings. Garda John McCann said Mr Govindaraj made no reply to the charges. "The flight from Istanbul was doorstopped; it basically means there were immigration officers at the door of the plane as passengers were disembarking in Dublin. As the passengers were getting off, the accused presented a passport, and he was allowed to travel on up to the passport booths in possession of a document, and that document was inspected at the passport booth."
