The deportation was carried out with assistance from the Department of Justice

A serial sex offender has been deported by Gardai to the Democratic Republic of Congo, it has emerged.

The sex offender had 19 previous convictions in Ireland for sex offences, false imprisonment and theft and the deportation was "a priority" of the Garda National Immigration Bureau.READ MORE: Dad of murdered Santina Cauley says she can rest in peace now killer Karen Harrington lost appeal "Chico Makamda was serving a custodial sentence in the Midlands Prison for Failing to Notify a Change in Details in contravention of the Sex Offenders Act 2001, and has nineteen recorded previous convictions in the state for numerous Sexual offences, False Imprisonment and Theft.

In July 2022, Makamda was returned to jail for two years after failing to leave the country as a condition of his sentence.
