The Texas Supreme Court has sided with a fully disabled Air Force veteran who has been waging a more than three-year legal battle with the Bexar Appraisal District to receive a full exemption on her property taxes. In a 7-2 ruling Friday, the state’s high court upheld a 4th Court of Appeals ruling in finding that Yvondia Johnson is entitled to claim the exemption on the house she occupies in Converse.
Bexar Appraisal District, disabled Air Force vet square off over property tax exemption on her house The district had argued that the tax code precludes duplicate exemptions for married couples for the same residence homestead and for more than one residence homestead in the same year. Yvondia Johnson had countered that she and her husband each qualify for the full exemption because they each receive 100% disability compensation due to a service-connected disability.
