There seemed something surreal, an almost dreamlike quality, in listening to Gregory Lynn calmly reciting to a silent, packed courtroom the details of what was surely a nightmare in the bush.about the violent and bloody deaths of Russell Hill and Carol Clay on the night of a camping trip in the high vastness of Victoria’s Wonnangatta Valley on March 20, 2020.
But declaring himself panicked after the deaths, he agreed he had settled on a plan: to clear away the evidence of blood after a discharge from his shotgun hit Clay in the head; to clean up and set fire to the camping spot of the dead pair; to pull the knife from the chest of Hill; to throw Clay’s and Hill’s phones in a river; and to remove the bodies in a trailer attached to his four-wheel-drive vehicle.
There was no body of Hill, with a knife wound in the chest, to be studied by pathologists, nor evidence of a shotgun head wound to Clay, he noted pointedly.
