Canberra builder Brendan Howe, 35, pleaded guilty to four charges including the aggravated assault when his ex-wife was 34 weeks pregnant. Howe sent a letter of apology to the court, but Justice Louise Taylor said it showed no genuine remorse.

Canberra builder Brendan Howe, 35, has avoided jail after pleading guilty to four charges for repeatedly assaulting his ex-wife, including when she was eight months pregnant.

The court heard that during argument, Howe held his wife, who was 34 weeks pregnant, against a wall, before making what Justice Louise Taylor described as a 'truly awful' reference to their unborn child."If you and that little c**t inside of you can't see that I'm the boss and when I wanna f***ing talk about something I'm gonna f***ing talk about , and she's gonna know that and you're gonna know that.

But Justice Taylor said it had been carefully crafted so as to not link the offences to the impact they had on the victim.
