The Greens leader issued a statement on Thursday morning saying Mark Dreyfus should not make “utterly unfounded statements and spread disinformation”.

Greens leader Adam Bandt says his lawyers have written to Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus accusing him of defamation after the senior minister said the Greens had been encouraging criminal damage to electorate offices.

“I think that the first law officer of this country should not make utterly unfounded statements and spread disinformation. No politician should do that. The debate was sparked when Albanese told the House the Greens should not make any remarks that encouraged protests to shut down electorate offices because it was anti-democratic to stop the work of elected MPs and their staff.
