The Greens leader issued a statement on Thursday morning saying Dreyfus should not make “utterly unfounded statements and spread disinformation”.

Greens leader Adam Bandt says his lawyers have written to Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus accusing him of defamation after the senior minister said the Greens had been encouraging criminal damage to electorate offices.

“I think that the first law officer of this country should not make utterly unfounded statements and spread disinformation. No politician should do that. With tempers flaring during an hour of argument, Dreyfus was booted out of the House of Representatives for heckling Bandt, while the Greens leader received several warnings for yelling over others.
