A Supreme Court pre-trial hearing has heard DNA found under Ms Cordingley's fingernails was unlikely to be from Mr Singh.A forensic scientist has told a Queensland court that the DNA evidence of an unknown person was found at the crime scene of murdered Cairns woman Toyah Cordingley.Rajwinder Singh, who was charged with the 24-year-old's murder in March 2023, has not entered a plea but maintained his innocence.
Mr Parry told defence barrister Angus Edwards KC that Mr Singh was "excluded" as a contributor to that DNA sample. He said the "likelihood ratio" of Mr Singh's DNA being on the fingernail samples — compared to other random members of the population — was so low as to "be kind of meaningless".The court also heard that the DNA on some of the evidence was "inhibited or degraded" before it was sent to a New Zealand laboratory.
"What you can do is do some clean-up steps which can improve the quality of the sample," she told the court.
