The Ford government is seeking to repeal the law that defines circumstances under which it can be sued as part of the budget introduced last Thursday

Ontario Minister of Finance Vic Fideli delivers remarks following an announcement, in Toronto on August 13, 2018.A proposed law tucked into last week’s Ontario budget has alarmed lawyers, who describe the government’s planned legislation as a potentially unconstitutional attempt to insulate the province from lawsuits.

On Tuesday, Premier Doug Ford added another take on the issue, saying the proposed law is aimed at quashing lawsuits from special-interest groups. “Much will depend on how the new provisions are interpreted by the courts, if the Bill is passed, but I would expect that tort claims against the Government will become more difficult, and that government lawyers will become more aggressive in bringing motions to strike,” Andrew Lokan, a partner at Paliare Roland Rosenberg Rothstein and co-author of, said in an e-mail. “At a minimum, it will likely be more expensive and complex to bring negligence claims against the Government.

Plaintiffs would still have the opportunity to sue the government for decisions made in bad faith or government misfeasance, but it would become more difficult. Under the new law, plaintiffs would have to seek court permission before bringing a misfeasance claim.

Ford knows the & types of suits to date and what he still intends to do, AND it is so bad that he needs protection for ill-advised decisions, unintended consequences, backfiring outcomes, bone-headed plans, small-minded acts of revenge,.It's a long list and sad, bad behaviour.

They know there going to screw things up royally and then don’t want to pay the consequences in court.

Just shows once again that the Regressive Conservative government has no plan for governing the province, and are aware their policies would withstand any type of legal scrutiny.

More proof of Fords Anti People legislation. Denying Ontarians the right to Seek Judicial remedy for wrongs committed by their Govt isn't exactly ForThePeople Updating the law is considerably understated. Ford sz wants to stop 'special Interests' from frivolous Lawsuits.

Ontario ‘alarmist’ over federal powers if carbon pricing law stands, court hearsFederal government says there is no merit to the province’s claim that Ottawa will gain vast new powers Carbon tax is a hoax they just want your money... So far none of their arguments have justified the tax just their bullying of provinces I don't understand why Ontario is pushing the claim that prices will rise if a carbon tax is imposed. Apart from the questions around that claim, when did it become the concern of a law court if something costs more? That'a political or economic argument, not a legal one.
