Roger Fortson News

Eddie Duran,Deputy,Firing

Police in Florida fired the deputy who shot and killed Air Force senior airman Roger Fortson earlier this month.

On May 3, Duran was responding to a report of a domestic disturbance when he shot Fortson just moments after Fortson opened his door at a Fort Walton Beach apartment complex.

There is still hurt and anger simmering in the community on Friday, despite the news of the deputy’s firing. OCSO said the investigation found that Duran’s "use of deadly force was not objectively reasonable and therefore violated agency policy.”"When Mr. Fortson opened the door, he was pointing his firearm at the ground enough for the former deputy to clearly see, and that Mr. Fortson did not physically resist, in any way," OCSO said."When we have issues, there are ways we can work through these issues," Williams said.
