MOSCOW - A Russian court convicted a Norwegian man on Tuesday of gathering espionage about nuclear submarines and jailed him for 14 years, a verdict that could strain relations between Moscow and its NATO-member neighbor.

Berg will not appeal the verdict and plans to request a presidential pardon from Vladimir Putin that would see him freed, according to his lawyer, Ilya Novikov. Berg, who was wearing a suit and was handcuffed as he watched proceedings from a glass cage, acknowledged having been caught handling sensitive material for Norwegian authorities but denied having any idea he was involved in espionage. Details of the case have not been revealed as they are classified.

Last week, Putin appeared to leave the door open to the possibility that Berg could be pardoned or possibly exchanged as part of a prisoner swap.

Barr heads to the Senate after suggesting report releaseFollowing Tuesday's hearing, AG William Barr is set to testify before the Senate Appropriations Committee on Wednesday morning. On Tuesday, Barr said the Justice Department will release a version of special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia report with redactions 'within a week.' what is the point of listening to a plethora of his jibber jabber when he really has nothing to say. he is not going to tell us anything new and will only exacerbate the frustration of the committee and those of us who might be watching tv. he is a trump guy and we know it. Can the AG possibly get any more unimpressive? He's lost all credibility by becoming yet another Trump lapdog. Stooping to the level (low) of the 'president' is not a good look, for him or us.
