Apparently, it wasn’t as simple as Claude Raines snapping, “Round up the usual suspects!”

The B.C. Court of Appeal owes the public a better explanation for continuing to keep under wraps the details of the Surrey Six killings, the subsequent investigation and prosecutions.

“The reasons for judgment have been signed, but not yet released to the public,” the court said. “There is a sealing order in this court. There are also publication bans in effect from the trial, matters of privilege and issues that have prompted appointment of amicus curiae in order to provide an adversarial context for certain matters that must be heard in-camera.

The delays, opacity, procedural wrangling, still-outstanding charges and overlapping incessant proceedings, this long after such a heinous crime, are an indictment of the legal system.
