Chad Daybell sits at the defense table after the jury's verdict in his murder trial was read at the Ada County Courthouse in Boise, Idaho, on Thursday, May 30, 2024. Daybell was convicted of killing his wife and his new girlfriend's two youngest kids in a strange triple murder case that included claims of apocalyptic prophesies, zombie children and illicit affairs.
The trial found him guilty for the deaths of his wife, Tammy Daybell, and two of his current wife's children, JJ Ryan and Tylee Vallow. Twelve jurors will need to decide on whether or not they believe Chad Daybell will get the death penalty. “This is really the most crucial decision made in any courtroom anywhere,” said Nathan Evershed, a Defense Attorney and former Prosecutor said. “You’re literally talking about a man’s life, there is some somberness to it, some seriousness to it as there should be.”
“That’s the weighing of the jury and all 12 of them have to unanimously agree on that,” Evershed said. “So in other words all 12 of them have to believe that the death penalty is a just penalty in this case.”“The defense is going to put forth their most sympathetic portrayal of Mr. Daybell. Part of that is going to be going back to his childhood, his upbringing what the impact of Lori Daybell was in his life, and his life trajectory and his thinking,” Evershed said.
