Pro Trump sites were awash with accusation that the former President's trial was rigged“Judge plus tree plus rope. Assemble in any manner you think is best,” wrote one Donald Trump supporter on site Patriots.win just hours after the“The people applauding this verdict all deserve to be rounded up in concentration camps,” another added. “These f**king losers have destroyed our country.”

Experts predicted any unrest was likely to spark after Trump’s sentencing on 11 July, or following the conclusion of any possible appeals,On the former President’s own social media site, Truth Social, supporters compared the trial to “something out of the Soviet Union”, with widespread allegations of political repression.

TV host Tucker Carlson described the trial as “the end of the fairest justice system in the world” and said “anyone who defends this verdict is a danger to you and your family”., and that a plane never crashed into the Pentagon on 9/11, warned of the “American people’s rage and disgust about Trump being convicted”. She sought to undermine Stormy Daniels as a “nasty pornographer” who is “not offended by anything at all”.

They also did not think the charges were hugely important; in an Economist/YouGov poll from late May, 75 per cent of Trump voters said they believe the hush-money case against him is not serious. Andrew Rudalevige, an honorary professor with UCL’s Centre on US Politics, also said he would expect a delay in any action until after sentencing and any possible appeals.

“I’m not as confident about us seeing violence on election day if Trump loses. It’s not impossible, but 6 January was a perfect storm. There were lots of people also very upset about Covid restrictions. I don’t see something as organised as that in conjunction with this case.
