Two men, aged 26 and 38, were arrested for allegedly killing a 75-year-old woman during a house robbery at Bika Township in Butterworth, Eastern Cape police said on Tuesday.
Police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, said the suspects were arrested by Msobomvu detectives at Madiba informal settlement near Bika Township on Monday. It is alleged that the 75-year-old grandmother was with her grandson in the early hours of December 22 last year. “The two suspects are alleged to have fatally stabbed the deceased and then committed house robbery. They robbed [a] plasma TV, PlayStation, cellphone, and laptop,” he said.The suspects are expected to appear before the Butterworth Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday on charges of murder and house robbery. The deceased was identified as Kholeka Ceza.
Butterworth Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu, condemned the murder of an elderly woman who could not defend herself.
