IISS Shangri-La Dialogue News

Law Of The Sea

The law of the sea was extensively discussed at a sideline meeting of the 2024 IISS Shangri-La Dialogue.

SINGAPORE - The law of the sea was extensively discussed at a sideline meeting of the 2024 IISS Shangri-La Dialogue, according to Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo. Manalo said he was able to meet Prof. Robert Beckman, an international lawyer with a special interest in legal skills, at the National University of Singapore.

The Philippines is a state party to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and the government has since pushed for international rules-based order especially on regional tensions and conflicts. The IISS Shangri-La Dialogue is considered as Asia's premier defense summit. It is a unique meeting where ministers debate the region’s most pressing security challenges as they engage in important bilateral talks and come up with fresh approaches together.
