In October 2022, Raymond Moody, who was arrested earlier that year, admitted in a South Carolina courtroom that he kidnapped, raped and killed Brittanee. He wasIn March, a federal grand jury indicted Moody's longtime girlfriend, Angel Vause, for lying to the FBI throughout the lengthy investigation — another thread in the painful story.The couple told investigators they picked Drexel up from the beach for a "party," then drove to another town about an hour away to smoke marijuana.

According to the indictment, Vause told investigators she left the scene to grab keys from another place as Moody raped and strangled Drexel. However, authorities say she actually traveled in a different direction for a different reason. Vause is also accused of taking and getting rid of Brittanee's cell phone, then lying about its whereabouts. She also allegedly told a special agent Drexel had voluntarily joined them, when the teen was actually abducted.Moody is currently at the Lieber Correctional Institution and Reentry Center in Ridgeville, South Carolina, according to that state's department of corrections.

In the meantime, Timothy Da'shaun Taylor, who was wrongfully pursued as a suspect in Brittanee's abduction and murder, is now suing the U.S Department of Justice. His family says they have faced harassment and threats for years.
