Immigration Minister Andrew Giles has revealed the Australian government invested $250 million in supporting law enforcement agencies track released immigration detainees.

Immigration Minister Andrew Giles has revealed drones are being used to track released detainees as pressure mounts on the government over the bungled immigration and visa saga.In recent days, Mr Giles has faced mounting criticism over a ministerial direction he introduced in January known as Direction 99, which instructs the Australian Administrative Tribunal to make"ties to Australia" a primary consideration during visa determinations.

"I self-identify as an Aboriginal person and consider Australia to be my country," he said in a written submission to the Tribunal. That's why we put in place a community protection board to provide advice to the delegates, so that experts are forming a view on this.
