Assistant District Attorney Joshua Steinglass is getting to the meat of the prosecution’s case: that the alleged attempt to conceal the hush money payment to Stormy Daniels was part of an illegal effort to influence the 2016 election. Steinglass zeroed in on a 2015 meeting at Trump Tower between Donald Trump, former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen, and former tabloid publisher David Pecker. Pecker agreed to suppress potentially negative stories about Trump as he embarked on his presidential campaign.
” All three of them, Steinglass said, knew that women would be coming forward with accounts of sexual liaisons with Trump. Pecker, he said, agreed to be the “eyes and ears” of the campaign, using his perch at the time as publisher of the National Enquirer to “catch and kill” their stories and protect Trump’s White House bid. “It was a subversion of democracy,” Steinglass said, adding that fair elections hinge on voters having access to important information about candidates.
