ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The large crowd marched through the streets of downtown Anchorage with signs in hands and chants at heart, ending at the Anchorage Police Department’s headquarters to demand the release of body camera footage from earlier this month when officersThe rally started with speakers from several community organizations at about 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Living Memorial.
Handy was shot by multiple police officers after 2:30 a.m. on Monday, May 13, outside of his apartment in Anchorage’s Sand Lake nieghborhood while his fiancée, Harmony Stitt, and children were inside. According to APD, this was the department’s first officer-involved shooting for the year. Cross has maintained comments made in her initial statement that the footage will be withheld until the investigation concludes.
