Rhian Templeton set fire to a pile of suits, shirts, coats, and trainers belonging to her estranged husband and then sent him a picture of the blaze, Cardiff Crown Court heard.s

A woman ignited her estranged husband's wardrobe in a fiery act of retribution after discovering his romance with her best friend and former sister-in-law.

Rhian Templeton set alight an assortment of her ex's attire, including suits, shirts, coats, and trainers, before sending him a photograph of the bonfire. The incident, described as a "revenge attack" by Cardiff Crown Court, occurred when Templeton learned about her ex-partner's new romantic partner.Prosecutor Jenny Yeo explained that the garments were stored in the garage of the couple's previous home by mutual consent after their separation.

She then captured the moment and sent the image to her estranged spouse. Ms Yeo stated that the bonfire was premeditated and constituted a "revenge attack." Rhian Templeton, residing on Elms Road in Raglan, Monmouthshire, contested the arson charge, claiming she was merely disposing of unwanted and abandoned clothing. However, she was convicted at Swansea Crown Court in April, reports Wales Online.Defence lawyer Hilary Roberts, representing Templeton, told the court that the couple were amidst a difficult and complex separation and divorce process.

Top news stories today While acknowledging arson's gravity and potential life imprisonment, Roberts argued that this case pertained to a garden bonfire that posed no risk to people or other properties, hence it should be considered "criminal damage by fire" far from warranting custody. The defendant received a 12-month community order, with 60 hours of unpaid work and a mandatory rehabilitation programme.
