Daniel Parker, 36, appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court charged with the murder of Margaret Parker and the attempted murder of a 55-year-old woman and 42-year-old woman.

Margaret Parker, 78, died during a disturbance within a house on Fernieside Crescent in the city on Tuesday, May 21.A 36-year-old man was later arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

He made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody. He was expected to appear again in court within eight days.A neighbour told the Record: "Mags was a lovely, friendly woman and would always stop to say hello."She was known for dying her hair different colours. We would always admire her.Another resident said: "Mags had lived here for 40 years. She was a quiet lady and kept to herself but she would chat away if you saw her on the street.
