With legislation yet to be signed, Dunleavy highlights energy policy passed by lawmakers at conferencePublished: May. 22, 2024 at 4:13 PM AKDTANCHORAGE, Alaska - Gov. Mike Dunleavy has yet to sign any energy policies lawmakers passed as he says his staff is still working to understand what is exactly in each bill — and the impact the legislation will have on the state.

One of the bills highlighted by the governor and lawmakers was House Bill 50, which in part allows the state to earn money by allowing companies to store carbon dioxide underground and create a cleaner product. “We can sequester that carbon even a little bit of it that comes from our clean coal and, and make a fairly clean energy source that could power our electricity for hundreds of years,” McCabe said.

Another provision in the bill would allow the state to provide loans to drillers struggling with financing in Cook Inlet through the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority.
