Earlier this week, Supreme Court Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Ketanji Brown Jackson sat out of a case.

Only one U.S. Supreme Court justice has been on every case this year, as some decided to sit out certain opinions.On Wednesday, a Newsweek review of Supreme Court cases and opinions found that only Justice Sonia Sotomayor has decided every case in 2024. She has not recused herself this year, the review found.The court this week heard arguments relating to a Canadian-born former Guantanamo Bay detainee who sought to have his war crimes convictions vacated.

Kavanaugh and Jackson heard arguments relating to the case when they were appeals court judges.In January, every conservative justice sat out of a case surrounding abortion restrictions, as they were all named as defendants.In a rare move, Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch, Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett sat out deciding whether to hear MacTruong v.
