Two weeks after a 17-year-old male is killed in Mobile, the family of the victim is speaking out.

) - Their message to the community comes hours before the suspect arrested is scheduled to appear in court this morning.

Mobile Police say around 3:30 a.m. on May 7, officers responded to reports of shots fired on Darwood Drive. When they arrived, they discovered a vehicle had crashed into a home, and a male victim was found deceased in the front yard. Within hours, Mobile Police arrested 20-year-old Carl Washington Jr. The family of the victim has identified them as 17-year-old Brandon Thomas. They also reveal Thomas was transgender and the oldest of five children.

“I’m hoping that the district attorney, I’m putting all trust in the justice system for them to do they job and really for him {the suspect} to get the maximum sentence that he possibly can get rather than him trying to create some kind of lie or something…. He had no right to take my grandson’s life because it wasn’t his to take,” said Rolanda Carl, the victim’s grandmother.
