The move comes more than a year after James Whitfield sued the district for defamation and violating the terms of a settlement agreement.

Former Colleyville Heritage principal James Whitfield was at the center of “critical race theory” backlash in 2021 that led to him leaving and settling with the district. But then last year, he sued GCISD and trustee Tammy Nakamura alleging that public comments she made — such as calling educators like him “poison” — violated the settlement agreement.In a 6-0 vote Tuesday night, trustees authorized the board’s legal counsel to seek the legal fees from Whitfield.
