Texas Commission On Law Enforcement News

Mario Lizcano Jr., a gubernatorial appointee on the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, was found asleep at the wheel of his pickup, Edinburg police said.

A member of the state commission that licenses and disciplines Texas police officers has been arrested on a DWI charge after police reported finding him asleep at the wheel of his pickup in Edinburg. Police found a black Chevrolet Silverado stopped in the road in the 2600 block of South Business Highway around 2 a.m. Saturday. Behind the wheel was a sleeping Mario Lizcano Jr., a prominent business and civic leader in the Rio Grande Valley, ValleyCentral.com reported.

Peace officers must be certified by the commission before they can work in law enforcement in Texas, and the agency can revoke licenses for misconduct — including driving while intoxicated — or if an officer otherwise becomes unfit. Lizcano was born in McAllen, grew up in Pharr and studied at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and the University of Texas at San Antonio, according to his biography on the commission website.
