The shooting of a police officer who was responding to a report of a stolen car set off a manhunt involving more than 50 officers. They tracked down the man in that car – and alleged shooter – Dajoune Dubose. He is scheduled to go on trial Monday.

) - The shooting of a police officer who was responding to a report of a stolen car set off a manhunt involving more than 50 officers.That was all the way back in November 2018. Now, more than 5½ years later, Dubose is set to go on trial for attempted murder next week. Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood, who will personally try the Dubose, downplayed the challenges of prosecuting such an old case.

Blackwood said the case experienced delays for a pair of mental health evaluations and the death of Dubose’s lawyer. But now the 24-year-old Mobile man finally will have his day in court. The DA’s Office is coming off a week that saw several verdicts. There was a hung jury in a sexual abuse case, but three trials ended with verdicts:Antwan Williams, who also has a pending murder charge, was convicted of promoting prison contraband. According to testimony, he asked to be put in the “hole” at Mobile County Metro Jail.
