A goalkeeper accused of raping a woman in a hotel room twice after his team won the FA Vase said the sex was consensual, a court heard.
In the witness box at St Albans Crown Court the goalkeeper was asked by his barrister Kate Blackwell KC: 'What were you doing taking an intimate photo of a sleeping woman who had not given you permission?' He said the next morning as they travelled back to Warrington he tried to remove the messages from WhatsApp.
He also worked as a personal trainer and had been a gym instructor or fitness manager. For a short time, when he was aged 19, he played for St Albans. Later, at around 11.30, he said he said he had another conversation with her which became a bit more flirty. 'I said have you got a partner - boyfriend /girlfriend? She smiled and said she had been on and off with people but was currently single.
