A 999 emergency call alerting police to the blood-stained body of a man found slumped in his car was played today at the trial of four men accused of the murder of Malcolm McKeown.
However, the basis of this plea was not accepted by the Crown who said it would have to be “adjudicated upon the basis of the evidence” before the trial judge who is sitting alone without a jury. Minutes later another police operator rings the caller back to check on details surrounding the incident. The caller replies “XEZ 5518”, before the PSNI operator asks: “How did you find this man?”
He stated: “I parked at the pump nearest the shop. After paying for what I got, I got back into my jeep. A white people carrier vehicle pulled in...the driver approached me and said: ‘Alright’. I recognised him. He said they returned to the other man’s car and the owner of the white people carrier phoned the police who arrived a short time later followed by an ambulance.
