by Matthew Jacobson, KUTVKouri Richins appears at Summit County courthouse for hearing on May 13, 2024. Kouri Richins, who is accused of giving her husband, Eric Richins, a lethal dose of fentanyl, is due in court Wednesday morning for a preliminary hearing.
The court will hear from at least two witnesses, and prosecutors said they believe those testimonies and new evidence that will be introduced will be enough to convince the judge to move the case forward to trial. Richins, who appeared in court on Monday morning in preparation for today's hearing, is facing several felony charges, including first-degree aggravated murder and criminal homicide. The prosecution will present evidence to support the charges against Richins, while the defense may challenge the evidence or argue that there is insufficient proof to move forward with a trial.
Richins' attorney previously argued that the state did not have a case because it had no physical evidence that her client had given Eric Richins a drink mixed with fentanyl. Her case has been high-profile due in part to a children's book she wrote, which was published shortly before her arrest, about dealing with the loss of a loved one.
