A forensic psychiatrist told a Toronto jury this week that Dallas Ly showed signs of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and depression before the night he killed and dismembered his mother, after years of abuse.From left to right: Defence lawyer Marco Sciarra, Dallas Ly, Justice Alfred O’Marra, Dr. Mitesh Patel. The jury heard from Patel, a forensic psychiatrist, on Monday after Dallas Ly testified in court. Patel said Ly has shown signs of PTSD before the night he killed his mother.

Dr. Mitesh Patel, called to testify by the defence, said Monday he found that Ly suffers from PTSD symptoms, including distressing memories, nightmares and flashbacks. Patel said he believes Ly exhibited PTSD signs before the night of the murder. The body of 46-year-old Tien Ly, left, was located in a bag near Eastern and Berkshire avenues in March 2022, Toronto police said. Her son, Dallas Ly, right, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder shortly after. his mother would beat him with shoes, her fists and a bamboo backscratcher that left scars. She would also often call him stupid and lazy, he said in court.
