Yarraville residents could be compensated for the tunnel being built under their homes a report finds springst

Yarraville residents who will have Transurban’s West Gate Tunnel built beneath their properties could be eligible for compensation ranging from $60,000 up to $120,000.

Source: Western Distributor Authority Supplied The Andrews government last year gazetted laws taking the land underneath 260 properties in all – including more than 100 homes in Yarraville – without any offer of compensation.Land titles created prior to 1891 went to the centre of the earth, while those issued after that year are only only 50 feet deep – or around 15 metres.

Ms Blencowe said Slater and Gordon had obtained under Freedom of Information a copy of that Valuer-General's analysis. “It's flawed, most pointedly because it assesses the loss at some time after the tunnel is complete," she said. "But that's once the disruption and uncertainty is over."
