New legislation to quash subpostmasters’ convictions will not include those whose cases have been considered by the Court of Appeal.

Victims of the Post Office Horizon scandal not being exonerated are being “punished for their efficiency and courage”, a leading campaigner has told Parliament.

“Those who have been in front of the Court of Appeal, in exactly the same way as those subpostmasters who have been in front of other courts, may or may not be guilty. His comments came as the Post Office Offences Bill received its second reading in the House of Lords. Former Labour Cabinet minister Lord Browne of Ladyton told peers that new evidence has emerged since the Court of Appeal upheld convictions of subpostmasters.

“And I would also like to hear what the DWP is doing to re-examine their convictions to make sure they have not relied on tainted Post Office evidence and investigations.”
