Sean Patrick McCluskey was “caught with the stolen items” and had a relevant criminal record, court told

A man was sentenced today for his involvement in a ram-raid on a high-end clothes shop in the middle of Belfast.

The 29-year old, from Crumlin Road in the city, was told his sentence would be divided equally between 20 months in prison followed by 20 months on licence. The two who entered the SD Kells, stole a number of Gant jackets then got back into the vehicle, which sped off in the direction of Great Victoria Street.

Judge Kerr said the offence was “clearly pre-planned” and spoke of the “considerable damage” caused to the store during the ram-raid. He also noted that McCluskey was “caught with the stolen items” and had a relevant criminal record. After imposing the sentence, Judge Kerr revealed that due to time already served on remand, McCluskey is due for release from prison “shortly”.
